Winter has arrived in Fort Wayne
Some Things you Should Know about Purchasing a Snow Blower
Whether you like it or not, it’s here. Last weekend, Fort Wayne turned into a wintery wonderland of snow. So now is a good time to think about getting your first snow blower or upgrading your old worn-out one! At Crescent Avenue Gardens, we carry a wide variety of Toro Snowblowers to help you clear all that snow from your driveway!
Here are some things to know before you shop for your next snow blower.
Single-Stage Snow Blowers
- gas-powered
- lightweight and easy to use
- best for clearing mid-size areas with a snowfall of less than 8 inches
- snow is directed by an auger through the discharge shoot
- the auger does make direct contact with the ground — i.e. could throw rocks or gravel — so these are best for use on paved surfaces
Two-Stage Snow Blowers
- gas models that are good for handling snowfalls in excess of 8 inches
- powerful enough for large areas
- wheels are engine-driven for easier pushing and to better go over uneven terrain
- an auger collects the snow then an impeller fan discharges it — resulting in faster and farther snow-removal
- skid shoes elevate the auger slightly so it can be used on unpaved surfaces
Three-Stage Snow Blowers
- gas-powered
- features an accelerator that moves significantly faster than the two-stage auger to clear more heavy snow faster
