How to Kill Weeds Naturally
Spray some roundup on it!
Wait. Stop. Just don’t.
Weeds are a problem in any lawn. Instead of reaching for the roundup, which has been linked or associated with a variety of health issues, try something different.
Your kids, your friends and family, and your pets play in your yard. Don’t poison them and the weeds. You can kill weeds dead. And you can do so naturally.
Lay down the poison and read on, we’ve got the skinny on how to make this happen.
Ways to Kill Weeds Naturally
1. Let It Burn
A flame-weeder is a handy tool. There are portable versions that are relatively lightweight and easy to use.
Move the flame around in a zig-zag like motion. The weeds will start to curl up and die immediately.
This product is incredibly easy to use but be careful in fire prone areas. Always keep dirt and water around to douse any potentially hazardous flame.
2. Salt
Salt is a powerful herbicide. However, don’t use it in areas where you intend on growing anything of substance, as salt will prevent new plants from growing.
Dissolve salt in water at a ratio of 1:3 and add a splash of dish soap. Spray the mix directly on to the leave, being careful to not soak the soil or allow the mix on to concrete. It can discolor driveways and walk ways.
3. Acid
There is more than one way to burn through weeds. Vinegar is another powerful herbicide that will kill weeds naturally.
For a next level weed killing solution, use the salt recipe above but cut some of the water for vinegar. As with the above solution, try not to saturate the ground or allow the spray to get on any plants that you would like to keep alive.
4. Booze
While we don’t suggest reaching for the good stuff, some cheap vodka can make for a great DIY herbicide.
Mix with water at a ratio of 1:2, add a splash of dish soap and get to it. This version of homemade herbicide will kill weeds naturally but will not work in shady areas.
Use it in sunny spots, as the alcohol combined with the sunlight will help suck all of the moisture out of your weed problem.
5. Hot Water
The boiling kind. This works really well for drive ways and walkways.
The super hot liquid can destroy plants. However, concrete will help it to cool to the point where it will not have any effect on your driveway other than to spot kill weeds.
6. Solarizing
This is an interesting concept that involves no spray. It is best used for larger patches of weeds.
The heat used is natural and bakes the weeds to death with the help of a plastic sheet. The procedure does take a while. Look under your sheet after a month. The weeds should be brown and dead.
Wrapping Up
There is definitely a correlation between heat and killing weeds. If you’re looking to kill weeds naturally, hotter is better.
